1,950 Tambora Residents Trained to Extinguish Fire

Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department on Sunday (8/31) held afire handling competition in a mall in Tambora Sub-District, West Jakarta. The activity was continuation of previous activity. It is recorded that since early August 1,950 Tambora residents participated in fire extinguishing efforts.

Head of Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department, Subejo, said that the formation of Fire Handling Squad in Tambora Sub-District is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program from Djarum Foundation. With this squad, residents’ awareness and participation in preventing fire increases.
“In 2013, there were 42 fire cases happened in Tambora. Of that total, 67 percent of the cases or 28 fires were extinguished alone by the residents, and the rest are by firemen,” he stated.
Fire Razes 7 Kiosks in TamboraAlong this year, Subejo told that 21 fires had happened in Tambora, which five of them were extinguished by the residents. Others were extinguished by the firemen because the fires were quite big.
Meanwhile, Djarum Foundation Contribution Program Manager, Budi Darmawan, said that the 1,950 people who have participated in fire extinguishing efforts are Tambora residents who live in seven urban villages, namely Pekojan, Duri Utara, Jembatan Besi, Kalianyar, Krendang, Angke, and Tanah Sereal.
