Anies' Two Years of Leadership: Collaboration of City and Community Prevents Violence against Women and Children

The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to minimize the case of violence against women and children in Jakarta.

We need to expand this to the whole community. Can you imagine if our family is the victim, of course it's a matter of humanitarian responsibility

It is done through socialization to the community about the perpetrators of violence against women and children can be processed by law, victims get protection and the community has the ability to help make prevention, provide free services through the Technical Implementation Unit for the Integrated Care Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (UPT P2TP2A) and cooperate with the Polda Metro Jaya to provide services for handling victims integrated in the Jakarta Aman app.

With various efforts and collaboration with the community, in the past year, the number of victims has decreased significantly according to the data in 2018 until the end of September released by the UPT P2TP2A.

Two Years of Anies Baswedan Serving as Governor

In details, the number of victims handled last year was 1,769 people, and continued to fall by almost 50 percent this year, precisely 835 people as of September 26.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan hopes that the public will also play a role in the process of preventing violence against women and children.

"We need to expand this to the whole community. Can you imagine if our family is the victim, of course it's a matter of humanitarian responsibility," he uttered, as quoted by the Jakarta PPID's press release, on Monday (10/15).

Efforts to prevent and minimize violence against women and children are outlined in the Jakarta mid-term regional development plan (RPJMD) and Gubernatorial Regulation number 48/2018 on safe houses for children and women victims of violence.

Besides police and security officers, other officers are also alerted such as, professional social workers, clinical psychologists, counselors, assistance officers until social assistance officers.

Aside that, the city also has formed the Jakarta Children's Forum which is engaged in the protection of women and children in 19 complaint posts set up on the yards of the RPTRA and flat tower. The existence has increased, which were previously spread in only 12 locations. Each post has three officers, namely victim's companion, psychologist, and paralegal.

Each PPT provides forensic doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists. Until the end of this year, it is targeted that there will be 8 PPTs available at the RSUDs and private hospitals in Jakarta.

To develop a climate of citizen engagement to build a fast and responsive reporting system, he has also formalized the Jakarta Aman app.

Jakarta Aman is a system that demands connectivity, either between citizens or authorities concerned with security and citizens with their own environment.

It is formulated based on a memorandum of cooperation with the Polda Metro Jaya according to the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) in preventing and handling cases of violence against children and women in Jakarta.

So every time there is a case report, the app will be connected to the Polda Metro Jaya.
