Anies' Two Years of Leadership: City Provides Cheap Bazaar for Underprivileged People

Food needs at affordable prices are one of the main things to realize Jakarta's resilience.

This program is held in grocery stores and markets in Jakarta every Monday to Saturday at 8 AM to 5 PM

The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to ensure the stability of food prices and to allocate more than Rp 1 trillion per year for food subsidies thus prices will be cheaper and can be reached by all low-middle class people.

As quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release on Tuesday (10/15), this commitment is realized by launching Jakarta's cheap food information and subsidized food information system apps, injecting non-cash food aid funds for the poor, holding cheap bazaar and building subsidized food outlets for workers. There is also the 2019 Jakarta Food Festival, which aims to disseminate information about the potential for food development in Jakarta.

The city also inaugurated the JakGrosir wholesale market on September 22, which is the first on Tidung Kecil Island, Thousand Islands. The price of basic necessities, especially food in the islands is still quite high than prices on the mainland.

But, now they can shop for food needs at affordable prices. This is in line with the city's program to stabilize food prices. Lower prices for goods supply received by traders are expected to bring lower and more stable prices at the customer. It will support the controlled inflation in the capital.

Traders can get goods at cheap prices and compete in JakGrosir. This is what the city's way to control the price for maintaining its purchasing power.

By so, cheap food needs for the islands throughout Thousand Islands will also be distributed from the islands. In the future, JakGrosir will present in other regions or islands.

For the type of subsidized staple product and its prices, namely:

- Beef: Rp 35,000 per kg

- Chicken meat: Rp 8,000 per kg

- Egg: Rp 10,000 per tray

- Rice: Rp 30,000 per 5 kg

- Fish: Rp 13,000 per kg

- Milk: Rp 30,000 per carton (24 packs, @200 ml)

Each commodity package has a market price at Rp 350,000. Yet the buyers only need to pay Rp 126,000 and the city covers the rest.

The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency asserts the target allocation of food subsidy recipients is holders of KJP Plus, Jakarta Worker Card, Jakarta Elderly Card, Jakarta Disability Card, PPSU and freelancers (PHL), Flat residents. This year, they have aside Rp 1.078 trillion for cheap bazaar by targeting 1,100,894 buyers. The amount increased from 2018 by Rp 885 billion for 840,630 people.

This program is held in grocery stores and markets in Jakarta every Monday to Saturday at 8 AM to 5 PM. It is also spotted every month in some flats and RPTRAs where it opens at 8 AM to 12 AM.
