BMKG: Extreme Heat is Predicted to Occur Until Three Days Ahead

Recently, temperature in Jakarta during the day time is quite high. Since October 19 until today, Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) noted, temperature in Jakarta could reach up to 37 Celsius degree.

High temperature and strong wind is still potential to occur until three days ahead

BMKG's Public Relation Head, Taufan Maulana mentioned, extremely hot weather in Jakarta and other cities in Indonesia is caused by pseudo-motion of the sun. Since September 2019, he added, sun seems to be around the equator and continues to move to southern hemisphere until December.

His side predicted, this pseudo-motion of the sun is predicted to be around of the southern part of Indonesia, namely South Sulawesi, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and so on. This condition causes more solar radiation to be received.

BMKG Predicted Mostly Sunny in Jakarta Today

"Besides, atmosphere in the southern side of Indonesia is relatively dry. Thus it is very inhibiting the growth of clouds that usually block the scorching heat of the sun," he mentioned, Wednesday (10/23).

Because there is only few clouds on the sky, he continued, temperature rises. Pseudo-motion of the sun is a normal cycle that occurs every year. It means, it is potential to cause extreme heat around the same period every year.

"High temperature and strong wind is still potential to occur until three days ahead," he said.

Related to this condition, his side reminds citizens to stay hydrated and wear long-sleeved clothes to protect skin from sunburn.

"Citizens should be aware of activities that can trigger forest and land fires," he mentioned.
