100 School Bus Drivers Educated About School Bus Engine Maintenance

Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub)'s School Transportation Management Unit (UPAS) educated 100 of total 176 school bus drivers how to take care of their bus and maintain its engine thus it can operate optimally and becomes more eco-friendly.

Jakarta Dishub's UPAS Head, Mohammad Insaf stated, air quality can be improved not only by conducting vehicle emission test, but also by educating the drivers how to treat their vehicle well, especially engine.

"We highly support every efforts implemented to improve air quality in Jakarta. School bus is also public vehicle that needs to be treated well, both its condition and its exhaust fumes," he mentioned, Thursday (10/24).

School Bus Users Continue to Increase

This briefing, he added, is done once every three months on Saturday from 8 AM to 11:30 AM. Briefing is given to 20 bus drivers per group.

"We share information about operating school bus, driving behavior, engine inspection including its tank and combustion chamber," he explained.

According to him, school bus characteristic is quite different with other bus. Thus, it is important to educate school bus driver how to operate it properly in order to make its engine is durable.

"Driving behavior can affect the engine. Through this briefing, we want them to understand more about their vehicle and how to take care of it. So, they able to handle problems immediately," he conveyed.

He hopes, free school bus facility can be accessed by more students because it is considered capable in reducing the use of private vehicles.

"School bus is surely safe and comfort. I hope more students can contribute in improving air quality in Jakarta by using school bus," he asserted.
