The residents living on the bank of Maja River, Pegadungan Urban Village, Kalideres Sub-District, West Jakarta, are having difficulties in getting clean water for lavatory (MCK). This happens because the river is dried up due to prolonged drought.
The river is dried up since six months ago and completely dried in these four months
“The river is dried up since six months ago and completely dried in these four months,” disclosed Nurliana (55), resident of RT 7/2 Pegadungan, Thursday (9/11).
According to Nurliana, all this time the locals used Maja River water for lavatory purposes. But now, they had to reach in their pockets and spend Rp 6,000 for two water jerry cans which each contains 25 liters of water.
Kampung Apung Residents Lack of Clean Water for 20 Years“Actually, the government has provided water hydrants, but not enough because many people need it (clean water),” she said.
Responding on this matter, Head of Kalideres Sub-District, Zeri Ronazy, stated that his party has provided two water hydrants in RW 02 Pegadungan to be utilized by the residents. But since the amount of residents need clean water is a lot, those hydrants cannot accommodate their needs.
“For solution, we urge the residents to install PAM water considering the channel already exists. Thus, they won’t be having difficulties again in getting clean water during dry season,” he uttered.
