The demand for taxi in Jakarta is high, but many taxi companies cannot provide fleets in accordance to the quota

“The demand for taxi in Jakarta is high, but many taxi companies cannot provide fleets in accordance to the quota,” stated Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama at City Hall, Thursday (9/11).

In order to meet the quota, Basuki stressed that he will revoke the contract of taxi companies that cannot fulfill the quota, then give the quota to big taxi companies that can. Although such a thing would make small taxi companies unable to develop, there is no other choice to meet taxi quota in the city.

City to Collect CSR Programs from Taxi Companies

Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, admitted that most of taxi companies in Jakarta have not able yet to meet the quota that has been set.

“Imagine, from quota of 24,000 taxis, only 12,000 taxis operating. That means, only 50 percent of the quota met. Whereas, they (taxi companies) have duty to meet the quota in accordance to their contracts,” he uttered.

In addition, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department Land Transportation Division, Imanuel, said that if in the end of their contracts the taxi companies still unable to meet the quota, their contracts will be revoked.

“As long as they haven’t met the quota, we will continuously warn them routinely to remind them to immediately meet the quota,” he asserted.

Imanuel also told that at this time there is one taxi company that still unable to meet quota. Unfortunately, he refused to disclose the name of that taxi company.

“There is one company resigned because it couldn’t meet the quota. It is unethical if I mentioned its name,” he explained.
