"We still have some obstacles, but we are optimistic to increase use of energy that is more environmentally friendly," he said when attending launching of 100% Renewable Cities and Regions Roadmap program at a hotel on Jalan KH. Wahid Hasyim, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (11/5).

According to him, this program shows that energy security and independence are not the obstacle in realizing a sustainable environment.

"But it should be seen as the catalyst in order to reach the purpose of sustainable development, especially the important roles of local government," he mentioned.

He assessed, this program is expected to encourage local government in supporting the achievement of national commitment to reduce greenhouse emissions by 41 percent in 2030, as mentioned at Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

"Program implementation and mindset alignment should be carried out consistently to support achieving national renewable energy targets," he added.

Meanwhile, 100% Renewable Cities and Regions Roadmap Program Officer from ICLEI-Indonesia Foundation, Bima Fitriandana stated, this program's purpose is to accelerate energy transition process by developing an inclusive regional renewable energy action plan. Besides, it needs increased environmental and energy awareness, as well as local government capacity, especially that related to program financing.

"Renewable energy is not only related to the use of technology, but it also needs to create a clear roadmap, strengthen stakeholder awareness, especially community, and improving government capacity," he stated.

Good coordination between sectors, actors, and levels become the key of success in making and implementing policies on the field. Thus, through this program, his side collaborates with local government and targets those points.

"Through this program, we hope local government can help solving the problems in renewable energy sector, while helping to achieve national energy targets," he asserted.
