Post-flood, City Holds Cleanup Action with Citizens

After the floods in parts of Jakarta, the Jakarta Provincial Government invites all elements of the community to work together to clean up flooded areas.

This moment is not just cleaning garbage or mud but also strengthening togetherness

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan leads cleanup action along Jalan Kerja Bakti, Makasar Urban Village, East Jakarta, on Sunday (1/5) morning.

Participants involved are citizens, religious figures and community institutions; Scout; army/police and public organizations; echelon II and III officials under city administration; agency heads who have PJLP to prepare its members; Satpol PP heads, transportation agency head and its members; social agency to involve Karang Taruna youth members at 388 points, bakesbangpol invites Kodam Jaya, Koarmada, Brimob, Indonesian Navy Marine Corps, Indonesian Air Force operations command, Kostrad, Kopasus and public organizations such as, Laskar Merah, Rumah Cinta Bela Negara, Pemuda Pancasila, FKPPI and Bang Japar mass organization. They wore red and white ribbons on their left arm.

"This moment is not just cleaning garbage or mud but also strengthening togetherness. That's why we invite you all (citizens) to create it," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

It is carried out in five cities spread across 33 sub-districts, 100 urban villages and 388 RWs, they are:

1. Central Jakarta

- In Serdang, Bendungan Hilir, Karet Tengsin and Johar Baru

2. North Jakarta

- In Penjaringan, Kamal Muara, Pejagalan, Koja, Cilincing, Sukapura, Marunda, Semper Timur, Rorotan, Semper Barat, Kelapa Gading Timur, Pegangsaan Dua and Kelapa Gading Barat

3. West Jakarta

- In Cengkareng Barat, Rawa Buaya, Kedaung Kali Angke, Kapuk, Cengkareng Timur, Tanjung Duren Utara, Tomang, Jelambar Baru, Sukabumi Utara, Kedoya Utara, Kedoya Selatan, Kalideres, Semanan, Tegal Alur, Kamal, Pegadungan, Pal Merah, Slipi, Kota Bambu Utara, Jati Pulo, Kemanggisan, Kota Bambu Selatan, Kembangan Utara, Meruya Utara, Meruya Selatan, Srengseng, Joglo and Kembangan Selatan

4. South Jakarta

- In Manggarai Selatan, Manggarai, Karet Semanggi, Guntur, Mampang Prapatan, Bangka, Tegal Parang, Pela Mampang, Kuningan Barat, Jati Padang, Cilandak Timur, Pejaten Timur, Kebayoran Lama Utara, Pondok Pinang, Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama Selatan, Cipete Selatan, Lebak Bulus, Pondok Labu, Gunung, Petogogan, Pancoran, Kalibata, Rawa Jati, Pengadegan, Tanjung Barat and Bintaro.

5. East Jakarta

- In Pisangan Baru, Kebon Manggis, Utan Kayu Selatan, Pisangan Timur, Cipinang, Kayu Putih, Jati, Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, Rawa Bunga, Cipinang Muara, Kramat Jati, Dukuh, Batu Ampar, Bale Kambang, Cawang, Cijantung, Pekayon, Rawa Terate, Penggilingan, Ujung Menteng, Pondok Bambu, Klender, Pondok Kelapa, Malaka Jaya, Pondok Kopi, Cibubur, Kelapa Dua Wetan, Rambutan, Makasar, Pinang Ranti, Kebon Pala, Halim Perdana Kusuma, Cipinang Melayu, Cipayung, Setu, Bambu Apus and Ceger.

"Alhamdulillah, we can finish it. This is part of our efforts to speed up rehabilitation after the flood yesterday. We'll support and help citizens in the cleaning process, in this phase all debris is transported and then we prepare carbolic through the Puskesmas network, disinfectants for free, to clean the whole house and the environment. Hopefully our recovery target can be achieved," he explained.

Aside that, the city also collaborated with 21 institutions/communities as a form of disaster management support, especially floods in Jakarta. They are Baznas Bazis, Rumah Zakat, Visi Indonesia Foundation, Kita Bisa Foundation, Red Cross Indonesia (PMI), PT Grab Teknologi Indonesia, PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa, PT Virtual Online Exchange.

There are also Jakarta Amanah Mulia Foundation, Mandiri Amal Insani Foundation, Amil Zakat Al-Azhar Institution, Amil Zakat Nasional Nurul Hayat Institution, Dompet Dhuafa Foundation, PKPU Human Initiative Foundation, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, HIPMI, DPD IWAPI, Turun Tangan Foundation, Amil Zakat Muhammadiyah Institution, Budha Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation and Fast Action Response Foundation.

As for the information, the cleanup action with residents was previously held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 2010. At that time, there was a big flood in Queensland and the government invited its citizens to work together to clean up flooded areas, which later was called Salvation Saturday. More than 55,000 volunteers took to the streets and helped the government clean the stricken area.
