Sharpening Children's Creativity Through Imlek Lantern Paintings

Sharpening creativity with various objects becomes valuable capital to reach the future. Surely this can be implemented through a work.

The difference between drawing and painting lies in the object

This is what is to be achieved by Zulfa (15), a high school student of Bhayangkari 1 and Yasmin Tiara (16), a student of SMAN 60 Jakarta when they joined the lantern painting activities together to celebrate the Imlek (Chinese New Year 2571), at SMAN 60, Jalan Kemang Timur, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Monday (1/20).

According to Zulfa, she really liked drawing since elementary school. She even aspires to enter the School of Art and Design (FSRD) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

60 Students Collaborate Painting Lanterns at SMAN 60 Jakarta

"I like to draw and paint since I was in 6th grade in elementary school. I found no obstacles to pair with anyone to work together," she expressed.

This activity is collaboration between Jakarta 60 SMAN and SMA Bhayangkari 1. Each school had 30 representatives, and they had to work together to be able to paint 30 lanterns.

Similar statement also came out from Yasmin who is Zulfa's partner. She also liked to draw since she was in kindergarten. She also tried deeper to study the theories of drawing and painting.

"The difference between drawing and painting lies in the object. If we like to draw, we will do painting easily. It only focuses on the color combination," explained a 10th grade student majoring in science.

On that occasion, she drew two white rats combined with her paintings with Zulfa's drawing on different sides.

"Both rats are painted under the cherry blossom tree," she told.

As reported earlier, 30 lanterns of the students' work will be displayed at Thamrin 10 Food and Creative Park, Central Jakarta on three days before Imlek, which falls on January 25.
