KPKP Optimizes Urban Farming in Thousand Islands

Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Department develops vegetable and fruit cultivation through urban farming program in Thousand Islands Regency to realize food self-sufficiency in Thousand Islands, especially for vegetables.

We will continue this action by involving the locals thus they become independent in fulfilling their consumption needs

Jakarta KPKP Department Head, Darjamuni explained, Thousand Islands has the potential to cultivate vegetables. Until now, his side continues to develop urban farming in inhabited islands such as Tidung Island, Pari Island, Lancang Island, Pramuka Island, Harapan Island, and Sebira Island.

"We cultivate vegetables and fruits such as eggplant, water spinach, spinach, lettuce, chili, shallot, watermelon, and others. We will continue this action by involving the locals thus they become independent in fulfilling their consumption needs, especially for vegetables in Thousand Islands," he explained, Monday (1/20).

Thus, Jakarta KPKP Department and Thousand Islands Regency will collaborate to use existing space and land to plant vegetables and fruits.

According to him, Thousand Islands community participation level towards agricultural development is now higher. Because they began to understand the importance of meeting the needs of vegetables and fruits on household scale.

"KPKP Department will be optimal in guiding and assisting local residents in carrying out urban farming," he stated.

For information, Jakarta KPKP Department has cultivated vegetables by planting 300 chili plants, 348 eggplants, 2,000 bird's eye chili plants, 60 papaya trees, 500 timun suri plants, and 300 watermelon plants on 10,000 square meters land in Tidung Kecil Island.
