Waste management in the capital is still using conventional means and have no sale value. Therefore, South Jakarta Health Sub-Department proposes the construction of a technology-based waste management depot to process waste into products for small- and medium-scale enterprises with industry scale and has been successfully implemented in Surabaya and Malang.
Waste processing results had been sold in Surabaya and Malang, because they have device or technology at the depot of waste management
"Waste processing results had been sold in Surabaya and Malang, because they have device or technology at the depot of waste management," expressed Head of South Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Zaenal Syafruddin, Saturday (9/20).
Syarifuddin disclosed that his sub-department cooperates with Japan government to implement the technology and no longer use conventional means. "There, we have a device and trasher to process organic and non-organic wastes. As a result, we can sell them well," he expressed.
He stated that pattern of waste management in Surabaya and Malang is very different than Jakarta which is still collecting waste at the depot and then throw it in the Bantargebang Landfill, Bekasi. "If we still use the conventional means. Waste is collected at the depot then just dumped into Bantar Gebang Landfill, no segregation," he explained.
According to him, waste processing depot construction was already proposed to Jakarta Cleanliness Department and Mayor. "We hope the construction can be projected next year," he expected.
He added, the land as wide as 300,000 meters is needed to realize the construction. Its implementation could also be implemented in the existing depots in South Jakarta.
"We have depots in Pesanggrahan and Pasar Minggu, but we have yet to implement the technology there. We will try to implement it and then continued to other depots," he finished.
