Massive Fire Burns Workers Huts & 50 Houses on Jalan Basuki Rahmat

A massive fire has torn through worker huts on the land for construction project of Bassura City Apartment, Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Cipinang Besar Urban Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Wednesday (9/24). Not only that, fire also burned 50 houses in RT 015/04 and caused a worker suffered serious injury.

Based on the information gathered, fire that broke out around 10.30 AM is allegedly triggered by electricity short-circuit. At that time, around 300 workers were trapped on the basement floor.Luckily, they could be saved by firemen.

But the other 100 workers on the upper floor could not go down due to the fire kept growing up. Since the fire came out, electricity was immediately off thus the lift can not be used. The apartment building has 20 floors.

Not long after, strong wind made the fire spread to the citizen residential and burned 50 houses in RT 015/04, as well as a Honda Supra motorcycle B 66907 PF and two cars. Then explosion was heard five times, which is probably from the fuel tank of a car.

In the incident, one of workers, Bayu (27) suffered burns on the cheeks, ears, legs and right hand. He along with 20 other workers recklessly get off from the 19th floor by using the emergency stairs.

"We go down using the emergency stairs. After arriving at the parking lot's exit access, fire grabbed and injured me due to strong winds," he told.

Yayo Suharyo, (40), a security officer stated that more than 300 workers are trapped inside building and fire burned more than 50 worker huts at the scene.

Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, Abdul Karim explained 35 fire trucks have been deployed to the field. "Temporary allegation, fire is triggered by electricity short-circuit and injure a worker," he expressed.
