Fire Gutted Textile Factory and Killed Two

A building of PT Usi Apparel Internasional in the Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (KBN) in Cakung, Cilincing, North Jakarta, caught fire today or Thursday (9/25), around 10.30 AM. The incident killed two employees of company that produces the pant and injured four other employees.

Both dead victims are identified as Lien Sururoh (21) and Arni Susila (20). Allegedly, they died after being trapped in the flames while inhaling thick smoke. Then they immediately rushed to the Cipto Mangunkusumo for an autopsy.

Based on the information gathered, around 10.30 AM, the sound of explosions could be heard from one of the rooms and make hundreds of workers ran to save their life. Not long after, fire quickly burned a finishing room.

Siti, (25), an employee of PT Usi Apparel Internasional expressed before incident, she heard explosion sound three times and she suspected it came from a pile of drums containing thinner liquid in the finishing room.

"We were working at that time, and suddenly heard an explosion. It was very loud until damaging the building's roof," she told.

David Zulkarnaen, Fireman of North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, explained 7 fire trucks deployed to put out the flames at the scene. Around 11.30 AM, they can control the situation. "Temporarily allegation, the fire is triggered by electricity short-circuit," he expressed.

He explained fire also injured four employees,namely Eva Prianti, Krisna, Maria Ulfa, and Winda. They then rushed to the Islam Sukapura Hospital.

Chief of Cilincing Metro Sector Police, Sr. Comr. Edi Purnawan uttered two dead victims have been brought to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. "We're still finding out the cause of the explosion. But from witness' information, fire comes out from one of the electrical wires," he explained.
