Thousands Companies Impose Unpaid Leave and Terminate Workers Due to COVID-19

Based on data compiled by Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration (Nakertrans) and Energy Agency on April 2-4, 2020, there are 162,416 workers (including laborers) who have been laid off and sent home without pay (unpaid leave) as an impact of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

We will wait for further instruction from the ministry

In detail, Jakarta Nakertrans and Energy Agency Head, Andri Yansyah informed that as many as 132,297 workers from 14,697 companies have been sent home and 30,137 workers were laid off from 3,348 companies.

"For now, we have closed the registration as ordered by central government. We will inform you if there is any further information about re-open the registration because maybe there are still many workers who haven't been recorded," he said, Monday (4/6).

Nakertrans Opens Registration for Laid Off and Suspended Employees

According to him, his side has reported the data to central government, in this case is the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.

"We will wait for further instruction from the ministry," he mentioned.

He explained, this data collection was done as a part of central government's policy in accelerating and expanding the implementation of Pre-Employment Card Program that will be carried out by providing job trainings and incentives for those who were laid off and sent home without pay.

"Jakarta has quota for 1,646,541 workers, but only 162 thousand workers who have been registered. If there is any further instruction from the ministry, we will inform you again," he closed.
