Story of Nurul who Left Her Family for COVID-19 Patients

Sometimes I'm sad because I cannot see my son's growth directly

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is still haunting the capital. In situations like this, the role of the medical worker becomes the most dependable profession to fight at the forefront.

Because of that, they have to give up time with their families to fight the deadly virus from Wuhan City, China.

COVID-19 Patients in Jakarta Share Experiences of Their Recovery

As experienced by Nurul Fitriyani (35), one of nurses at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta who had to leave her child and husband while in charge of handling COVID-19 patients.

"I have a three-year-old son. And now we are separated first as I have to deal with patients infected with coronavirus to minimize the next number of victims," she told, when being interviewed by Beritajakarta.id, Sunday (4/19).

Nevertheless she feels grateful that she still has time to meet her child face to face via a video call after she finishes her duties and returns to the d'Arcici Cempaka Putih Hoteal.

"Sometimes I'm sad because I cannot see my son's growth directly. But I have no choice, as people are in need of me now," she expressed.

While treating COVID-19 patients in the isolation room, she always wears a complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) starting from mask, gloves, head protector, three-layer hamzat suit and boots for eight hours to handle 120 patients.

"Every day I have to wear PPE. It feels so hot. Fortunately there is a shift work," she admitted.

She added COVID-19 couldn’t be completely dealt with if it only relies on the efforts of medical workers and government. It also needs the community's role to contain the virus spread.

"So please just stay home. Don't go anywhere if there is no urgent matter. That way, we can fight against this virus," she stated.
