Budget to Hire Lawyers Included in the 2015 RAPBD

Jakarta Provincial Government will include the budget to hire professional lawyers in the 2015 City Budget Draft (RAPBD). As reported earlier, Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ T Purnama is going to hire lawyers to sue constitution (bylaws) offenders.

“I’ve been instructed by Mr. Ahok to allocate budget in the 2015 RAPBD to hire lawyers who will represent Jakarta Provincial Government in filing lawsuits,” disclosed City Secretary Saefullah, Wednesday (10/1).

Unfortunately, Saefullah cannot yet mention the amount of allocated budget to hire the professional lawyers because the number of cases, both civil case and criminal case, to deal with in a year must be predicted first. Moreover, the cost in handling civil case is usually greater than the cost in handling criminal case.

According to him, this professional lawyers hiring is designed in form of lawyer auction package per case. Which lawyers to be hired cannot be disclosed for now because everything is still in auction process.

“Later, the budget will be auctioned per package. Usually, the final is calculated per case, because we must negotiate first with the lawyers. Besides, the cost per case is different,” uttered Saefullah.

Earlier, Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama stated that he wanted Jakarta Provincial Government to move faster in solving law enforcement problems in the capital city. He felt that Jakarta Legal Bureau does not strong enough in representing city government during legal cases.

“The Legal Bureau is not strong. We need fiercer lawyers. So, we’ll be suing many people, including demonstrators, illegal street vendors, and matters related to land problems we can also sue,” he said.
