Primary and Secondary Education Sub-Depts will Be Combined

Post-ratification of bylaw on Regional Apparatus Organization by Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) on August 21, 2014, Jakarta Education Department is going to overhaul and change the organization under regional working unit (SKPD). The overhaul is expected would be effective in January 2015.
Both sub-departments will be combined into regional-based Education Sub-Department. Its structure will be the same as tax service sub-department office which split into two in every municipality
For information, sub-departments overhaul is set in one of a total of 150 Governor Regulations that are currently being drafted by all SKPDs. One of those regulations states that Primary and Secondary Education Sub-Departments will be combined into Education Sub-Department at municipal level.
“All this time there is a dichotomy between Primary and Secondary Education because of teachers’ competence that still needs attention. Both sub-departments will be combined into regional-based Education Sub-Department. Its structure will be the same as tax service sub-department office which split into two in every municipality,” uttered Head of Jakarta Education Department, Lasro Marbun, Sunday (10/5).
KJP's Levy, Disdik to Take Firm ActionAccording to Marbun, Jakarta Education Department also plans to validate the structural position of section head level.
“Since education sub-department is split into two, the position of section head at sub-district level is enough for one person. Previously, there were two employees of primary and secondary education sub-departments in sub-district section,” he explained.
Moreover, Marbun stated that Jakarta Education Department will continuously improving the quality of education guidance to schools in the capital city. This is because all this time the citizens have set in minds that there are only some state schools categorized as best schools, such as SMAN 8, 28, 68, 78, etc.
“We hope that in 2019 at least half of senior high schools (SMA), vocational schools (SMK), and junior high schools (SMP) in the capital city could have similar quality. Thus, people would not have to race in admitting their children into particular schools,” he said.
