Extending PSBB Period, Anies Expects Citizens to Be More Discipline

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan announced to extend PSBB status in Jakarta for two weeks, from May 22 to June 4, 2020. He mentioned that this period could be the last PSBB period, where his side expected the condition to return to normal with a decrease in COVID-19 positive case reports per day.

Jakarta will extend PSBB status until 14 days ahead, from May 22 to June 4

"Jakarta Government together with Jakarta Task Force announce to all citizens that Jakarta will extend PSBB status until 14 days ahead, from May 22 to June 4. It could be the last PSBB period, so we must be discipline and follow the regulations well, thus we don't need to extend it again," he stated, Tuesday (5/19), as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

According to him, capital's PSBB status is extended due to scientific study conducted by epidemiologist team at Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia (FKM UI). Based on data collected, he said the effectiveness of the proportion of people who stay at home with a decrease in number of COVID-19 daily cases.

"More people stay at home, the smaller chance of transmission. Instead, more people outside, the higher chance of transmission. From March, the proportion of people who stay at home increased to 60 percent. What happened? Around two weeks later, the COVID-19 case reported in Jakarta is slowly declining. This trend only happened because number of people who stayed at home began to increase," he explained.

Per May 17, 2020, his side informed, COVID-19 Reproduction Number in Jakarta is at 1.11. That number, he assessed, need to drop below 1.

For information, Reproduction Number (Rt) is the transmission rate of an infection. If Rt = 4, it means one person has a potential to transmit to 4 people. Thus if Rt < 1, it means the potential to infect others is almost gone. An outbreak will continue to increase if Rt > 1. Vice versa, it will decrease if RT < 1.

"Ideally, reproduction number should be below 1. In March, Rt in Jakarta is 4. Alhamdulillah, thanks to our efforts, especially 60% people who choose to be at home, this result can be achieved. Without it, the number would not have been able to decline. Without us staying at home, tracing work by the Health Agency's team, independent isolation; without all of that, we can't achieve this result. It is an extraordinary colossal work. Now, our position is at 1. For the past 2-3 weeks, it has been stable. Because from May 4 to 17, it moves from 1.08 to 1.11. More or less, our reproduction number is at 1. We need to lower it down," he stated.

His side appreciates efforts of all citizens who had been disciplined in following health protocols during PSBB. In addition, his side also encouraged citizens who hadn't been fully disciplined to take responsibility by taking it more seriously to comply with the regulations until the next two weeks of PSBB.

"PSBB will be extended until June 4. Hopefully it could be the last extension of PSBB status. Let us work together. We can do it! All Jakartans, I believe, can do it with discipline. Insya Allah it would be the end of PSBB for us. After that we can start the new phase by doing activities as before, of course with the new protocols," he closed.
