KPKP Monitors Food Stock and Prices in Several Markets

Today, Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency simultaneously checked the availability and prices of 11 staple foods in five municipalities. This monitoring targeted modern and traditional markets under Perumda Pasar Jaya.

Monitoring is done to ensure those staple foods are available in all Jakarta regions

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Darjamuni mentioned, food monitoring was carried out to follow up instruction from Secretary General of Indonesian Home Affairs Ministry to ensure the availability and price stability on 11 staple foods, consisting of rice, chicken, egg, cooking oil, sugar, garlic, shallot, big chili, red cayenne chili, and corn.

"Monitoring is done to ensure those staple foods are available in all Jakarta regions. If one region has limited stock, we should complement each other. This monitoring gives us information about which regions with less stock and more stock thus it can be distributed evenly," he explained.

Based on the monitoring result, his side found that the availability of 11 staple foods in Jakarta is safe with relatively stable prices. However, there is an increase in shallots and sugar's prices but not significant.

"Imported sugar has begun to enter Jakarta and hopefully its amount will increase. While shallots stock is actually limited from the first supplier. Insya Allah, it could return to normal," he said.

According to him, people don't need to worry because staple foods availability in Jakarta is safe and its prices are relatively stable.

"Related to 11 staple foods, all regions have reported that they have enough stocks thus no need to panic," he added.
