Vegetables and Fruits Planting Carried Out Simultaneously in 92 Locations

Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency initiated to grow vegetables and fruits simultaneously in 92 locations in Jakarta.

People can request for the seeds to KPKP Agency

This activity was directly monitored by Agriculture Ministry's Horticultural and Seedling Director, Sukarman, and Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Darjamuni.

Darjamuni appreciated citizens' enthusiasm in growing plants. For information, this activity was not only participated by farmers group and urban farming actors, but also community organization (ormas), Children-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces (RPTRA)'s administrators, and TNI (Indonesian Army).

"When we are facing the COVID-19 pandemic, apparently community is spending more of their time to grow plants. I am both happy and surprised of their enthusiasm. It is unbelievable," he expressed, Friday (6/12).

Seeing people's enthusiasm, he continued, Jakarta KPKP is ready to support urban farming activities in Jakarta by providing seeds. Jakarta KPKP Agency's Seedling Unit Head has been instructed to provide productive trees' seeds to support community who want to develop urban farming in their region.

"People can request for the seeds to KPKP Agency. For horticultural seeds, we will try to ask Agriculture Ministry. But for fruit and productive trees' seeds, we will provide it at Seedlings UPT, because the requested plant should be adjusted to the potential of each regions," he conveyed.

He asked technical officers in the field such as Implementation Unit (Satlak) and urban farming instructors to identify and list the existing potential of the region and the needs of community.

"We will continue to use available spaces, such as private-owned lands, offices, green valleys, rooftops and RPTRA that have the potential to be developed for urban farming. Thus urban farming program in Jakarta can be more successful," he closed.
