Commemorating Environment Day, Urban Farming Launched in Pulogebang

Commemorating the World Environment Day, East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar together with Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Andono Warih and Jakarta Council (DPRD) Legislator, Yudistira Hermawan launched urban farming at Era Mas 2000 Housing, RW 15, Pulogebang, Cakung.

After launching, we will form farmer group to manage this land

On this launching, they planted vegetables, shade trees, and productive trees on the public facility area as wide as 500 square meters. There are also nutrition ponds, waste banks, and composting area in this place.

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar stated that his side will continue to run urban farming program in the region by utilizing the public facility area. Through this program, his side expected more people attracted to plant crops by utilizing the existing lands.

"After launching, we will form farmer group to manage this land. We, from the government, will provide socialization, training, and support community empowerment to develop urban farming program optimally," he explained, Friday (6/5).

Jakarta LH Agench Head, Andono Warih assessed, local government should to collaborate with the locals in developing urban farming and greening programs. His side will also continue to train the management or farmer groups thus they can be more professional in managing the land.

"Not only urban farming, but thus land is also equipped with waste bank and composting. Organic waste from residents can be made into compost and fish feed," he added.

Yudistira Hermawan, one of Jakarta DPRD Legislators showed his support for urban farming program in Jakarta because he saw good collaboration between government and community.

"Urban farming has developed well in East Jakarta. Most urban villages and residents have received the benefits," he closed.
