Jakartans, Beware of Potential Fire in Dry Season

The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency has called on residents to be aware of the potential for fires in the dry season as it is today.

West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency's Operation Division Head Eko Sumarno said residents were asked to increase awareness of the potential for fires, one of which was by not throwing cigarette butts carelessly. Moreover, in the surrounding environment, there were a lot of flammable materials such as paper, plastic, wood leaves and dry grass and so on.

"We also always remind them to use electrical equipments in accordance with SNI considering almost 68 percent of the fires in May occurred due to electricity short-circuit," he expressed, Monday (7/13).

For the use of gas stoves, he furthered, if the smell of gas was detected, the thing to do was to open air ventilation then not immediately turn on electrical equipments such as fans, light switches, televisions and others before the gas odor disappears.

"If the fire breaks out, please to call 112 or at 021 56007323. The faster the information we receive, the smaller the losses suffered," he stressed.

He added, based on the data as of June, there were 39 fire cases in West Jakarta. It was mostly triggered by electricity short-circuit.

"In June, 19 cases are due to electricity short-circuit and 17 other cases are from other causes," he closed.
