Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission A Legislator, August Hamonangan expects Pasar Minggu can return to be a fruit center, one of Jakarta's icons in 1960s-1980s.
At that time, Pasar Minggu was identified with fruit market
Based on the history, he mentioned that Pasar Minggu Market was famous throughout the country for its variety of fruits. At that time, Papaya Cha Cha song which created and sung by Adikarso in 1955 was also famous and really represented Pasar Minggu.
"At that time, Pasar Minggu was identified with fruit market. Now, Pasar Minggu condition has changed. It is no longer fruit center like it used to be. Although there are some traders who sell fruits, but most of them are imported," he said during his recess by visiting residents on Jalan Ampera Raya Gang Kancil RT 03/09, Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Tuesday (8/11).

"In fact, it supports their economy, provides income for fruit traders or maybe helping them to find other places to sell fruits but still in Pasar Minggu. Because from long time ago, this area was used by fruit traders to sell local fruits," he conveyed.
Amid of pandemic, people's economy is expected to be better, especially for fruit traders in Pasar Minggu. He assessed that arranging fruit traders in Pasar Minggu can be a solution to prevent imported fruits to enter the market.
"It has been going on for a long time, I agree and remind residents to buy local products. We hope in this situation, traders can be coached to run culinary business, especially related to fruits," he conveyed.
