Regency Identifies Islands Affected by Oil Waste

Thousand Islands Regency through Environment (LH) Sub-agency together with Directorate of Contamination Recovery and Hazardous Waste Emergency Response, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and PT. Pertamina identified the oil spill location and oil waste treatment in the waters of Pari Island, Tidung Island, and Untung Jawa Island, Friday (8/28).

We manage to collect around 15 tons of oil waste from the location

Thousand Islands LH Sub-agency Head, Djoko Rianto Budi Hartono conveyed, based on the identification results, currently there were no lumps of oil waste found in the waters of Untung Jawa Island.

Meanwhile, there are lumps of crude oil found at several points in Pari Island and Tidung Island areas, such as in Bintang Beach, Pasir Perawan Beach, and Tidung Island Beach.

250 Kg of Crude Oil Waste Transported from Tidung Island Beach

"We manage to collect around 15 tons of oil waste from the location and use boat to transport it to Tanjung Pasir Port," he explained.

Regarding to the identification result and laboratory analysis test results of waste oil, PT. Pertamina is obliged to report it to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Jakarta LH Agency, and Thousand Islands LH Sub-agency.

"We will keep monitoring and evaluating it further thus no more oil waste in the waters of Thousand Islands," he asserted.
