City Encourages Gas-fueled Bajaj through New Regulation

Jakarta Transportation Department plans to rejuvenate bajaj (three-wheeled taxi) in the capital city. The plan will be followed up by changing premium-fueled orange-colored bajaj with gas-fueled blue-colored bajaj.

We’re going to apply this new regulation, thus orange-colored bajaj owners would replace their fleets with the new ones

“Actually, bajaj rejuvenation from premium-fueled to gas-fueled had been proclaimed since six-seven years ago. But, the program was assessed not successful enough,” Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Mohammad Akbar told beritajakarta.com, Monday (10/20).

According to Akbar, the program was assessed not quite a success because from 14,000 premium-fueled bajajs operating in Jakarta, there are only 5,000 bajajs use gas for fuel.

“There are still many premium-fueled bajajs operating in the city. Whereas, bajaj rejuvenation program aims to abolish subsidized fuel. At this time, two distributors are ready to supply new fleets for gas-fueled bajaj,” he stated.

Moreover, Akbar disclosed that his department has prepared a new regulation to smooth bajaj rejuvenation program.

“Earlier, bajaj ownership had to go through cooperative or limited company (PT) that embodies bajaj operational. Now, it is changed to individuals who want to have bajaj for business can process the permit in Transportation Department’s office,” he explained.

Akbar is optimistic this new regulation would able to boost bajaj rejuvenation process. Moreover, Jakarta Transportation Department also guarantees the availability of gas fuel, so gas-fueled bajaj operational would not meet obstacles.

“We’re going to apply this new regulation, thus orange-colored bajaj owners would replace their fleets with the new ones,” he uttered.
