Utilizing RTH Area, City Supports Food Security Activities in Makoopsau I

Jakarta Government collaborates with TNI, in particular with the Air Force Operations Command I (Koopsau I) to hold a program to realize Green Open Space (RTH) as food-resilient land. In this collaboration, both sides plant 50 types of tree in 20,000 hectares land and spread 13,000 red and black tilapia fingerlings in 800 square meters pond. 

This activity is carried out according to health protocols in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic

Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria (Ariza) also attended on trees planting and fish fingerlings spreading event at Koopsau I Headquarters, Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta and welcomed by Commander Koopsau I (Pangkoopsau I), Youth Marshal Ir. Tri Bowo Budi Santoso.

Ariza said, those fish and trees seeds were given by Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency.

"This activity is carried out according to health protocols in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. It also increases love for a beautiful, green environment and healthy air in Jakarta," he conveyed as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release, Tuesday (11/24).

He explained that activity to maintain food security is a positive behaviour for supporting balance and preservation of ecosystem functions, as a part of life that provides great benefits for survival and the results can be felt directly by the community. These activities have an important meaning as an effort to grow and improve quality and quantity of green spaces in Jakarta, especially in dealing with global warming. 

"Taking into account these conditions, Jakarta Government continues to strive to improve environment quality and groundwater availability. Various methods are developed, including implementing environment-based development, expanding green open space, making river and coastal borders into urban protection areas, improving and expanding the silting lakes, and building infiltration wells. Moreover in anticipating flooding and raw water supplies," he explained.

This activity is started with joint exercise and ended with 'Saung Inspirasi' inauguration which made from used fishing boat materials and as a place for interaction in Makoopsau I area. Related to this, Pangkoopsau I Young Marshal TNI, Ir. Tri Bowo Budi Santoso assessed, Saung Inspirasi is useful to be a place to discuss enviromental problems, building friendship, communication, and hold meeting with residents. It also supports health protocols implementation during COVID-19 pandemic. 

"We appreciate Jakarta Government for helping us in realizing fish farming. Thus in the future, it will give real benefits to the local people. While planting trees can improve quality of surrounding environment and become the lung of the Jakarta and increase number of productive trees, attract birds to come, and improved soil quality," he conveyed.

For information, this activity was also attended by East Jakarta Vice Mayor, Hendra Hidayat; Jakarta KPKP Acting Head (Plt), Suharini Eliawati; KPKP Agency Agriculture Head, Mujiati; and Koopsau Staff Chief, First TNI Marshal, Ir. Tedy Rizalihadi S.
