Under Kampung Melayu Flyover Safeguarded by 40 Personnel

East Jakarta Social Sub-Department puts 40 personnel of Service, Supervision, and Social Control (PS3) on standby under Kampung Melayu Flyover, Jatinegara Sub-District, Monday (11/3). The personnel’s duty is to repel people with social welfare issues (PMKS) who often base and sleep under the flyover. They will guard the area twice a day alternately at 6 AM-3 PM and 3-9 PM, with each shift consists of 20 personnel.

“We put 40 P3S personnel on standby to anticipate the rampant existence of PMKS under Kampung Melayu Flyover. Those PMKS have much disturbed public order,” stated Head of East Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Masyudi, Monday (11/3).

Meanwhile, Head of Balimester Urban Village, Agustinah, disclosed that about 50 PMKS based under the flyover. They consist of street musicians, beggars, and scavengers. Although her party has controlled them repeatedly, those PMKS always come back again.

“The area under Kampung Melayu Flyover should be transformed into an interactive park equipped with sporting facilities and children’s playground, then safeguarded by personnel so there would be no space for PMKS,” she uttered.

According to Agustinah, her party has coordinated with PT Jasamarga, PT Astra, and other companies to take part in the construction of the interactive park in the site through corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
