Public Works Dept: Flood Handling Remains a Priority

The newly appointed Head of Jakarta Public Works Department, Agus Priyono, said that he will continue the programs of flood mitigation and damaged road repair as already done by his predecessor, Manggas Rudi Siahaan.

We just need to continue the programs that are already running, especially flood mitigation and damaged road repair

“We just need to continue the programs that are already running, especially flood mitigation and damaged road repair. We’ll also continue the installation of sheet piles on some rivers which currently ongoing, so rivers’ walls would be strong and not (easily) collapse,” he stated, Monday (11/3).

According to Priyono, other flood mitigation programs to be continued are rivers normalization and reservoirs construction which have not finished due to still constrained by land acquisition. Among the reservoirs to be built are Marunda and Rorotan reservoirs in North Jakarta as well as Brigif Reservoir in South Jakarta. However, he does not know yet when the land acquisition process would be completed.

DPRD: Jakartans Should Be Involved in Flood Handling Efforts

“We cannot be sure of it yet, because we must coordinate first with the Land Procurement Committee (P2T),” he said.
