This is solution to meet the needs of the islanders

Urban farming is currently on the rise in Thousand Islands as people are forced to spend more time at home in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Besides meeting household needs, selling crops can also increase family income.

It gets appreciation from Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD)'s Commission D Member Muhammad Idris. He said, the Thousand Islands Regency continued to conduct assistance and guidance, thus food security in residential islands could be maintained.

"This is solution to meet the needs of the islanders. Hopefully other regions can also do the same thing," he expressed, when he participated in the harvest activity at the Pemuda Kelapa Harapan Green House Farmers Group (Poktan), Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Thousand Islands Sub-district, Friday (1/29).

Thousand Islands Regent Junaedi expressed, it would continue to be developed and become a role model in each residential island. So, it could contribute to maintaining food security in Thousand Islands.

Meanwhile, Thousand Islands Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency Head Devi Lidya uttered, the Green House poktan was managed by local residents together with the Thousand Islands National Youth Committee (KNPI).

"For the needs of seeds and equipment, we get aid from the Ministry of Agriculture, while the assistance is carried out by the KPKP Sub-agency. The first harvest today is 98.5 kg of kale and 46.5 kg of caisim," he stated.
