LH Agency Deploys 24-Hour Task Forces to Handle Garbage Accumulation in Rivers

Anticipating rising water levels in sluice gates, Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency deployed 24-Hour Task Forces with total 5,000 personnel in locations where garbage accumulation often occurs.

Jakarta LH Agency Acting Head (Plt), Syaripudin mentioned, those thousand personnel were joint personnel from Water Body Unit and LH Sub-agency personnel in each regions.
"We have done mapping. There are 10 points that will be focused on Ciliwung River, Pesanggrahan River, and Sunter River," he mentioned, Monday (2/1).
Anticipating Flood, South Jakarta Apparatuses Asked to Be PreparedTask forces will be equipped with 44 pick-up cars to transport garbage, 50 garbage trucks, 5 spider-type excavators, 6 long arm excavators, 20 ordinary excavators, and 1 liebher excavator accompanied with 23 personnel for mobilization and 12 mechanics.
"If needed, routine service fleets from other areas can be also mobilized to the affected areas. Our target is to clean water body quickly according to the Governor's direction," he added.
According to him, LH Agency has Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for handling garbage in rainy season. SOP is carried out based on development of monitoring results from task forces, BPBD, BMKG, CRM, and other information related to the increase of water level in Katulampa, high rainfall, and tidal flooding.
"We divided SOP into 4 modes, namely normal mode, alert mode, flooding mode, and rehabilitation mode. We ensure that the garbage handling system runs effectively," he stated.
