East Jakarta Relying on Seven Pumps to Curb Flooding

We try to add three more in order to quickly deal with flooding

The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency has said at least seven mobile pumps have been installed to alleviate flooding in RW 02, 03, and 0 4, Cipinang Melayu, Makasar, East Jakarta.

Fire and Rescue Division Head, Gatot Sulaeman said those seven pumps had been operated since 7:30 AM.

"We try to add three more in order to quickly deal with flooding," he said, Friday (2/19).

He explained the water in the residential areas was pumped and thrown into Kalimalang as the current condition of Sunter River was still high. Based on the monitoring results, untul 2:30 PM, the water had started to recede about 10 cm height from the previous 50 to 150 cm.

RW 04 Cipinang Melayu Chairman, Irwan Kurniadi explained six neighborhoods (RT) were inundated, precisely in RT 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 07, with 745 households or 2,321 people affected by flooding.

He went on to say that six evacuation sites were set up already under Becakayu Toll Road RT 01/04, in front of Akpindo Campus, at Jembatan Kuning, in front of RW 04 post, at RW 04 post office, and at the homes of residents of RT 08/04.

He appreciated the quick response and hard work of the joint officers in an effort to overcome floodibg in his region.

"Hopefully the floods recede quickly and residents can return to their homes," he hoped.
