Thousand Islands - SOSIS Collaborates to Hold FGD on Waste Management

The waste problem in Thousand Islands must be solved in a cross-sectoral manner for optimal results

The Thousand Islands Environmental (LH) Sub-agency, collaborated with the Divers Clean Action (DCA) in the program of Save Our Small Island (SOSIS) to hold the focus group discussion (FGD) about waste management in Thousand Islands at one of hotels in Sunter area, North Jakarta.

Thousand Islands LH Sub-agency Head Djoko Rianto Budi Hartono said it was also attended by leaders and representatives of related regional apparatus organization (OPD) in Thousand Islands, as well as private companies and BUMNs.

"The waste problem in Thousand Islands must be solved in a cross-sectoral manner for optimal results," he expressed, Tuesday (3/2).

According to him, the meeting produced five recommendations for the Thousand Islands waste management action plan, which will involve elements of the government, the general public, the private sector and non-government agencies.

Those five recommendations were strengthening the capacity and role of institutions in the waste management system; increasing participation in sorting and collecting waste; providing alternatives for the community in reducing waste; regular coordination forums and collaboration between stakeholders.

"One other recommendation is that the financing of all waste management activities can be through retribution or the operation of the RW level waste management agency," he stated.
