March 10-April 6, Dispusip Restores and Digitizes 4,729 Archives

From March 10 to April 6, 2021, Jakarta Library and Archive Agency (Dispusip) has restored and digitized 4,729 archives owned by residents who were affected by flood. In detail, 379 archives have been restored and 4,350 archives have been digitized.

Jakarta Dispusip's Archive Management Division Acting Head (Plt), Fitri Aulia conveyed, those 4,729 archives were owned by 561 families in 5 regions of Jakarta whose houses were affected by flooding.

"Restoration and digitization service in four regions have been completed, except in South Jakarta. Because there are more locations affected by floods in South Jakarta thus the service is still ongoing until end of April 2021," she stated, Wednesday (4/7).

She informed, her side digitized and restored families' archives such as ID card (KTP), family card (KK), birth certificate, sale and purchase deed, and diploma.

"We can also restore and digitize employee certificate, pension certificate, passport, BPKB, certificate, and others," she added.

She explained, restoration service is provided to repair archives and prevent further damage, not to restore archives to its original state. Therefore, archivist must look at the damage first to find out whether the archive can be repaired or not.

Meanwhile, digitization is a technique of transferring contents or information from archives that are printed, written, or drawn into digital format without reducing the contents of original archives.

"After being restored, archives will be digitized. Later on , resident will receive CD contains of digital archives as a backup. This door-to-door service is provided by Jakarta Dispusip as regional archival institution in order to save archive," she mentioned.
