Tomang Barat Reservoir Water Treatment Installation will Increase Water Supply in West Jakarta

Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency has completed the construction of Tomang Barat Reservoir Water Treatment Installation (IPA). Currently, the maintenance is still carried out by contractor until one year ahead. According to plan, this IPA will be used to supply water to 8 urban villages in West Jakarta that don't have access to clean water from PAM Jaya.
After contractor maintenance period is over, West Jakarta SDA Sub-agency will hand over the maintenance
Jakarta SDA Clean Water Supply and Control Section Head, Glenn Santista conveyed, IPA is located on Jl. Tanjung Duran Utara, Tanjung Duren Utara Urban Village, Grogol Petamburan. The construction work was carried out from October 1, 2020 to January 28, 2021.
"Currently, clean water service coverage in Jakarta only reaches 60 percent of total population in Jakarta. It means 40 percent still don't have access to piped clean water service, especially in West Jakarta and North Jakarta. Therefore, Tomang Barat Reservoir is built to supply clean water in West Jakarta," he said, on Friday (4/23).
Next Year, PAM Jaya will Manage Water Distribution in Thousand IslandsWater which produced by IPA will be supplied to water stalls in 8 urban villages in West Jakarta, namely, Srengseng, Meruya Utara, Joglo, Kedaung Kaliangke, Rawa Buaya, Kembangan Utara, and Kembangan Selatan Urban Villages.
IPA in Tomang Barat Reservoir has capacity of 20 liters/second with raw water sources from Tomang Barat Reservoir. Pump Intake has capacity 10 liters/second (2 axial pumps) and 5 liter/second (1 submersible pump). While ground tank has capacity 172 cubic meters and 10 cubic meters for elevated tank.
In processing raw water taken from Tomang Barat Reservoir, his side built intake bridge in form of floating HDPE pipe equipped with submersible pump with capacity 5 liters/second and 2 surface aerator units with each capacity 5 horse power (HP).
Furthermore, raw water which collected in ground tank with capacity 172 cubic meters also equipped with axial pump with capacity 10 liters/second and 6 surface aerator units with each capacity 3 HP.
"Coagulation of mixing chemicals with raw water can be done through fast stirring process that form homogenous mixture. When there is flocculation, namely formation of large and dense colloidal clumps (floc) particles through a slow stirring process with up-and-down flow. Later, it will make sedimentation where floc and water separated based on difference in density through precipitation," he explained.
Raw water also processed through filtration phase, by separating the remaining particles using filter. After that, it enters clear well process to kill pathogenic bacteria and slow the growth of moss by adding chemical in form of chlorine solution using dossing pump which equipped with backwash system.
After passed those phases, water will be collected in ground tank with capacity 172 cubic meters and flowed to elevated tank with capacity 10 cubic meters which equipped with automatic sensor. Lab test of water from IPA processing have standards that refer to quality standards for sanitation hygiene needs based on Health Minister Regulation (Permenkes RI) No. 32/2017 on environmental health quality standards and health requirements of water for hygiene and sanitation, swimming pool, solus per aqua, and public bath.
"After contractor maintenance period is over, West Jakarta SDA Sub-agency will hand over the maintenance. While PAM Jaya will distribute it to the community," he stated.
