North Jakarta Plans Vegetables and Fruits at BPP Sukapura

Commemorating World Environment Day on June 5, North Jakarta Government planted fruits and vegetables at Sukapura Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), Rorotan Urban Village, Cilincing. Interestingly, this cultivation is carried out by developing Yumina-Bumina method, a cultivation technique that combines vegetables, fruits, and fish.

North Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto stated, today his side conducted simultaneous planting activity in 28 locations in 6 sub-districts.

"We focus the activity at BPP Sukapura because this location is a pilot plant location in North Jakarta. It covers an area of 2.04 hectares for urban farming development and agro-education tourism," he stated, Friday (6/4).

1,313 People Participate in Simultaneous Planting Activity

In this activity , his side planted 2 mango trees, 4 chili trees in pots, and 30 kale crops in pots. Not only vegetables and fruits, his side also released 3,000 African catfish fingerlings and 3,000 tilapia fish fingerlings.

"We hope participants can share their experience with their friends who don't know about urban farming thus they can understand it better," he conveyed.

He assessed that urban farming in pandemic gives benefits to the community.

"In my opinion, during pandemic like today, urban farming has benefits since it can increase immunity because it makes people happy when doing urban farming, our bodies get sunlight thus our bodies can be stronger," he said.
