2016, Kampung Pulo would Be Free from Flood

The program of Ciliwung River normalization keeps being intensified by Jakarta Provincial Government to minimize flooding in the capital city. In 2016, the areas passed by Ciliwung River are targeted to be free from flood. One of those areas is Kampung Pulo, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District, East Jakarta.

“Several programs are being done around Ciliwung River, such as adding sluice gates in Manggarai and Karet as well as building Ciliwung waterway to East Flood Canal (KBT). For Ciliwung, Jakarta Public Works Department said that it is ready, no obstacles regarding flooding,” stated City Secretary, Saefullah, Monday (11/24).
After sluice gate in Karet added, Saefullah continued, it would be able to accommodate water up to 720 cubic meters per second. While for Manggarai sluice gate, its capacity will be improved from 400 cubic meters per second to 500 cubic meters per second.

Especially for Ciliwung-KBT waterway construction, it is targeted to finish at the end of 2015. Moreover, the residents whose lands affected by the project have agreed with price of land acquisition compensation offered.
“Its progress is quite good, hopefully consistent with the target. By the end of 2015, water would flow smoothly,” said Saefullah.
