Governor Anies Hopes Media Maintains Objectivity

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, symbolically gave awards to the 47th Mohammad Husni Thamrin Journalism Award 2021 winners in the Jakarta City Hall's Pattern Room, on Wednesday (8/25).

In his speech, he invited the whole audience to look back at the role of the media from the New Order era until now, where there have been many changes.

"We were once in the New Order era, where the Government conveyed various information related to development through the media as a reference to check the truth of the information," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

"Today, the media is experiencing challenges and relies on many things, one of which is speed. Thus, the accuracy of reporting is sometimes a test that makes people refer to confirmation from the government. It's upside down and we must be cautious together," he furthered.

By so, he gave a message at the same time conveyed his hope that the media would maintain objectivity in every report. Moreover, they had a role to both accommodate and duplicated the information presented to the public

"We need to build objectivity, as the media becomes a container and multiplier of information. We both hope that it is taken care of," he expressed.

If objectivity was maintained, he added, they would not only present accurate, in-depth, and reliable information, but also generate optimism. Moreover, the news in Jakarta had various dimensions of opinion.

"We want to build people's confidence and we want the media to remain a reference. Hopefully, all can be materials that build public optimism that 'yes, this city has problems across time, but we are trying to solve the existing problems step by step'," he expressed.

As for the information, the Mohammad Husni Thamrin Journalism Award is an event of appreciation for journalistic work that has been regularly held, in collaboration with PWI Jaya. This year, there were 491 journalistic works that were included in the seven assessment categories, namely: 177 works in the text category, 58 works in the photo category, 95 works in the terrestrial TV video category, 48 works in the streaming TV video category, 12 works in the radio category, 49 works in the infographic category, and 52 works in the editorial category. Journalistic works assessed were works that had been published in the period from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021.

The jury consisting of 7 people had gone through a long process to determine the winner from each category.

Jury Chairman for the Mohammad Husni Thamrin 2021 Award for Journalism, Irmanto, said that this year's event was attended by various participants. It was not only dominated by mainstream mass media, but also new media.

"Of course this new media that is already a legal entity. That's why, we have many participants and varied themes here. It's no longer dominated by floods like in previous years, but also the handling of the pandemic," he explained.

He also said that this year's event was attended by many young journalists. So, there would be more young journalists actively working in the future by continuing to provide input and criticism to the government, for the betterment of the city. Here are the names of this year's winners:

7. Audio Category: Danang Sundoro, RRI Pro 3
