Flood Victims Begging on the Street will Be Arrested

Jakarta Social Department threatened to arrest the flood victims who recklessly begging on the street. Those will be categorized as people with social welfare issues (PMKS). Hence, Jakarta Provincial Government will not tolerate the beggars on behalf of the flood victims.

"If you see the flood victims who beg in the streets, you can report it to our call center at (021) 4264675. We will follow up and bring them to the social institution," said Head of Jakarta Social Department, Masrokhan, Wednesday (11/26).

Aid Distribution for Flood Victims will Be More Selective

He disclosed flood victims become beggars in rainy season should not happen in Jakarta. This is because Jakarta government will meet the supply of food and clothing in the camps. "In Jakarta, flood victims are strictly forbidden to beg. This is very embarrassing," he expressed.

He expressed such case had been exist in Jakarta since a long time ago in which most of them dominated by kids. "The phenomenon has been going on since long ago, but now we forbid it," he stressed.

Masrokhan explained Jakarta government has set up public kitchen and refugee camps in flooded areas. Thus there is no reason for flood victims admitted to starve until finally begging on the street. "The public kitchen had been set up. We also received aid from various elements. All aid is enough for all regions," he told.

He added, his department has sent 200 officers of Disaster Response Teams (Tagana) to the field. They will help the flood victims, ranging from evacuation to supply the goods. "Tagana deployed depending on the condition. Certainly, we have prepared officers in the field," he exclaimed.
