East Jakarta Mayor Leads 1,000 Trees Planting Activity in KBT

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar and TP PKK Head, Diah Anwar led the planting of 1,000 fruit trees in East Flood Canal (KBT) area, Duren Sawit, on Friday (9/17).

This activity was carried out to realize Fruit Village as well as to commemorate International Ozone Day. It was attended by Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati; Ea st Jakarta Vice Mayor, Seko Fredy Setiawan; East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Acting Head (Plt), Ali Nurdin and other related officials.

Anwar assessed, the fruit tree planting activity was carried out simultaneously in 65 urban villages in East Jakarta. In KBT area, there were 1,000 fruit trees planted consisting of 500 cepedak avocado trees and 500 mango trees. This tree planting program was carried out to restore East Jakarta.

"Tree planting in other region is adjusted with characteristics of each regions. For example, in Cipayung. They will grow typical plants that used to grow in the area" he conveyed.

This tree planting program not only restore the region by planting rare typical plants of Jakarta, but also to make the environment greener and more beautiful, as well as reduce air pollution.

On the occasion, it was stated that all planting and maintenance were carried out by TP PKK cadres, at least one TP PKK cadre can plant and take care of one fruit tree.

"I ask RT/RW administrators and urban village heads to also take care the plants," he mentioned.

East Jakarta TP PKK Head, Diah Anwar expected all TP PKK cadres in East Jakarta with total more than 26 thousand people will be more enthusiastic about doing reforestation in their environment. Moreover with education from Jakarta KPKP Agency.

"They have often carried out reforestation programs. In the future, they are expected to be more advanced," she expressed.

Meanwhile, East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Acting Head (Plt), Ali Nurdin explained, all fruit trees planted in KBT area were from Plant Nursery Center Unit and Jakarta KPKP Agency's Plant Protection.

Plants used for this trees planting program came from grafting and budding method. Those plants had been also certified and had purple label. It showed that the plants could produce high quality fruit. Then later it could be used to plant seeds by taking the shoots.

"Avocado and mango trees that we plant today can bear fruit in the next 2-3 years. Hopefully it will produce high quality fruits," he said.
