Jakarta Film Week will Become an International Festival

The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Agency, officially launched Jakarta Film Week, an international-scale film festival in Jakarta, on Sunday (11/7).

Jakarta Film Week is a medium of appreciation and education that has a major contribution to the development of the film industry

It is slated to be conducted both online and offline. Offline screenings would be held at CGV, Cinema XXI and Hotel Ashley and online screenings was only on vidio.com. Tickets could be accessed starting on November 10 through jakartafilmweek.com.

Parekraf Agency Head, Andhika Permata gave an appreciation and a support for this festival. It was expected to open up new opportunities for work and could be part of strengthening the post-pandemic economy.

"Jakarta Film Week is a medium of appreciation and education that has a major contribution to the development of the film industry. This is the time for the capital to have a continuous film appreciation and education event," he expressed.

Festival Director, Rina Damayanti explained, it became a forum for Indonesian film industry players, especially in Jakarta, to develop in terms of discourse, skills and network development.

Aside that, it could be a trigger for other regions to develop further and to improve the quality of the film industry in Indonesia as a whole. All programs and information related to Jakarta Film Week can be accessed on the jakartafilmweek.com page.

"This is a meeting room for filmmakers and films from various countries to foster and develop creative industry networks in a bid to build togetherness in adapting to new developments in the post-pandemic film world," she explained.

As for the information, it would open with a world premiere of the Indonesian film, Ranah 3 Warna, produced by MNC Pictures and directed by Guntur Soeharjanto. Then Whether The Weather is Fine, directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad from the Philippines would be the closing film.

Other film programs that will be present are Global Feature which contains feature-length films, Global Short which contains screenings of short films, from Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, China, France, Japan, Myanmar, Italy, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Chosen feature films and short films will compete to win the Global Feature Award and the Global Short Award.

There was also the Direction Award, a special competition for Indonesian films that were screened during the festival. Additionally, industry actors also have the opportunity to exhibit their works in the Exhibition and Showcase rooms, which are located in the main location of the festival.

Another program that focuses on funding is the Jakarta Film Fund. The Jakarta Film Week program team will choose five short film story ideas that will receive production support funding and from professional filmmakers, directing movielabs, script writing and image editing. All finished films will be screened during the festival.

Then other programs held during the event include Masterclass for professional film workers, Talks to discuss current issues in the film industry, and also Community as a forum for exchanging experiences and strengthening networks.
