Movie Theaters in Jakarta Allowed to Operate with New Normal Protocols

The city administration and cinema owners are gearing up to reopen movie theaters soon after consulting with the COVID-19 task force. However, the owners must meet the requirements of the COVID-19 health protocol.

Operation permit for XXI, Cinepolis and CGV has been issued

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf)'s Supervision Division Head Iffan said the operation permit was issued after passing through an evaluation process by the Joint Team.

The Joint Team was formed in order to smoothen tourism business activities could run according to the applicable health protocol.

City Allows Museum and Theater Building to Reopen

"Operation permit for XXI, Cinepolis and CGV has been issued. Today they are already operating," he told, Wednesday (10/21).

Previously, he explained, the Joint team did field observations and gave assessments, evaluations and suggestions to tourism business actors.

"They (the Joint Team) has set/compiled additional health protocol requirements and communicated conclusions to the agency for the issuance of a Technical Recommendation Letter," he stated.

Here are the following requirements that must be met during operation:

- Each owner must apply a maximum of 25 percent of business capacity

- Apply physical distancing between audiences of at least one meter

- No eating and drinking in the theater

- Prohibited from changing seats

- Officers must wear masks, face shields and gloves

- Data collection of visitors must be done, either online or manually in the format of including the visitor's name, cellphone number, the first six digit of the NIK
