Potential for Commercial Tourism, Jatinegara Market Gate Area will Be Revitalized Soon

The gate area for access to Jatinegara Market, which is currently used as a place for street vendors (PKL), will be transformed into a coached shelter (Loksem) under the Industry Trade Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Sub-agency.

In connection with this plan, Assistant for Economics and Development, Kusmanto together with his staff immediately conducted a direct review to the location. He was also accompanied by PPKUKM Sub-agency Head, Parulian Tam pubolon, Jatinegara Sub-district Head, Endang Sofyan and Balimester Sub-district Head, Nugroho, on Wednesday (11/10)

"It is done to collect the aspirations of traders during the pandemic. Moreover,  the role of the government is to fix economic. We want the gate area to be revitalized for a more comfortable place," he stated.

According to him, the area had always been known as a center of commerce. So, it needs to be revitalized in order to prosper the traders. By so, the area could become the largest commercial tourism center in East Jakarta.

Currently, his party is waiting for a proposal from the association of street vendors thus it becomes a coached Loksem assisted by the East Jakarta PPKUKM Sub-agency. Later, the proposal would be discussed at the city level by involving the related technical units.

"There are still two months of opportunity for environmental management. it will be designed with typical Betawi culture. For instance, the sale location arranged and decorated with typical Betawi ornaments in order to attract more visitors," he continued.

Jakarta Micro Traders Association (PPMJ)'s Public Relations Head, Jhon Basri explained, the number of traders in the gate area for access to the Jatinegara market is 98 traders. They are ready to do independent revitalization or the sake of beauty, cleanliness and comfort of traders and the community.

Even, His party had also got approval from 26 shop-house owners in the area for revitalization considering they were on the front of the shop house. Including the goods sold by the street vendors came from shop houses in that location.

"They don't mind partnering with street vendors, as evidenced by a letter of approval affixed with a stamp and signature on the seal," he said.

RW 06 Balimester Chairmen, Mulyono added, from the beginning, his party had also hoped for guidance from the East Jakarta administration thus the environment was more organized, especially in the gate area, which is used by 98 street vendors.

All this time, his party routinely monitors and handles cleanliness thus the environment remains orderly, neat and clean.

"We, from the environmental management, also hope traders will soon make revitalization. Because this area has become a historical icon in Jatinegara Market," he exclaimed.

Of 98 traders, 60 percent had made non-cash transactions. They have also made online sales in collaboration with Shopee and Tokopedia.

"This makes it easier for traders and buyers who make transactions online," he concluded.
