Entering rainy season, the citizens who live on the bank of Papanggo Reservoir, Papanggo Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-District, North Jakarta, began to worry. This is because the reservoir is never been dredged for more than five years.
As far as I know, the reservoir would be dredged because some heavy equipments are already in the location. But, I don’t know when the work would be started
For information, thousands of citizens live around the reservoir, precisely at RW 08, 09 and 10 Papanggo. They are worried that if the reservoir not normalized immediately, by the time heavy rain pours, the reservoir would overflow and water would inundate their settlements.
“The last time our settlements flooded was in last January-February. Although the locals did not take refuge, their activities were disturbed because of the overflowing water from the reservoir that reached 50 centimeters high,” told Samin (31), a local at RT 13/08 Papanggo.
Normalization Project Damaging 5 Parks and Green Belts in N. JakartaResponding on this matter, Deputy Head of Papanggo Urban Village, Dwi Kunarso, stated that the proposal on Papanggo Reservoir normalization has been included in the Development Planning Meeting (Musrenbang) held in mid year.
“As far as I know, the reservoir would be dredged because some heavy equipments are already in the location. But, I don’t know when the work would be started,” he uttered.
Similar statement also came out from Head of North Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Wagiman Silalahi.
“I don’t understand the detail plan of Papanggo Reservoir normalization. It is the authority of Jakarta Public Works Department,” he said.
