170 Illegal Buildings in Tebet Demolished

As many as 170 illegal buildings stood in Honda Park, Jalan Tebet Barat Raya, South Jakarta, are demolished by 400 joint personnel from Satpol PP, Army and police, as well as local Parks and Cemeteries Department, Cleanliness Department, and Transportation Department.

“We demolish 170 buildings today. This is a continuation of previous demolition in last October,” stated South Jakarta Mayor, Syamsuddin Noor, Wednesday (12/3).

According to Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department, Nandar Sunandar, the area will be re-functioned into an interactive park.

“We’ll make a macro park. Before creating the design, first a research will be done to know the needs of surrounding people which different, from children, teenagers, until elderly. Later, there would be also jogging track, gymnastic facility, and children’s playground (in the park),” he uttered.

Meanwhile, Kasim (50), one of the illegal building owners, admitted that he could only resign seeing the building he had lived in since 10 years ago being demolished by the officers.

“What can I do? I’ve been socialized and warned. That’s why some of my stuffs have been moved. For temporary, I’m renting a house around Jalan Asam Baris,” he said.
