56 Dimly Lit Stalls in Ciracas Dismantled

As many as 100 joint personnel of Urban Village and Sub-District Satpol PP as well as Army/Police tore down 56 dimly lit stalls behind the Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal, Ciracas, East Jakarta, Wednesday (11/26). The demolishment is done because the site is deemed prone to criminal action.

The stalls are often used as a prostitution site at midnight

Besides selling food and beverage, those dimly lit stalls as long as one kilometer stood atop on the banks of Cipinang River, RT 03/06, Kampung Rambutan Urban Village also used by tens of sex workers to prostituting themselves.

Head of Ciracas Sub-District Head, Romi Sidharta disclosed his side has repeatedly received complaints from locals who have unsettled the existence of dimly lit stalls in their neighborhood.

"The stalls are often used as a prostitution site at midnight. There, the owners also sell liquor to the visitors," he told.

According to him, the land is planned to be planted with trees for greening. His side would also coordinate with the Water Management Public Works Sub-Department to normalize the Cipinang River in order to anticipate overflowing waters in rainy season. 

"After being demolished, the terminal management can immediately repair the damaged fences. Thus the locals cannot use the site as useless things," he expressed.
