BPBD Deploys Quick Response Team to Support Disaster Management

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has dispatched the quick response teams (TRC) in five city areas in order to support disaster management during the peak of the rainy season.

Jakarta BPBD Acting Head, Sabdo Kurnianto said, from 180 members, 27 are alerted in Central Jakarta, 41 are in North Jakarta, 43 are in West Jakarta, 48 are in South Jakarta, and 48 are in East Jakarta.

"Some have also been alerted at the provincial level," he expressed, Thursday (1/20).

Moreover, his party has also taken disaster mitigation measures to face the peak of the rainy season. One of which is providing the public with the latest information on weather forecasts and potential extreme weather alerts via social media, WhatsApp Group (WAG), and other information channels.

"The source is always from BMKG which continues to coordinate intensely," he exclaimed.

Aside from handling inundation, his team is also always alert and responsive to helping refugees by distributing logistical assistance ranging from food, baby equipment, blankets, medicines, masks to hand sanitizers.

"Together with various parties, we're ready to help refugees in flood-affected areas," he said.

Disaster Information and Data Processing Executing Unit Head, Michael Sitanggang added, he also always informs early warnings of changes in the weather situation in Jakarta and Bodetabek (Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) areas.

It is informed through the Disaster Early Warning System (DEWS) using loudspeakers which are currently placed at 23 points throughout the Jakarta area.

The information provided is related to the increase in Water Level (TMA) status which is monitored at 12 sluice gates and monitoring posts.

"Then there is also SMS Blast sent to residents in flood-prone areas," he stated.
