100 Packages of Vegetables Given to Underprivileged People in Ciracas

Underprivileged residents living in RT 08/06 of Rambutan Urban Village, Ciracas, East Jakarta had received 100 packages of vegetables and protein foods on Friday (1/21). Those food packages were given through collaboration with Kampung Sedekah community and led directly by Ciracas Sub-district Head, Mamad.

He distributed the packages to residents' houses together with RT/RW administrators, Kampung Sedekah community, dasawisma, jumantik, and TP PKK cadres. Each resident received one kilogram of bok choy, water spinach, spinach, tempe, and bean curd.

This program, he added, has been running since the end of 2019. Some vegetables given were harvested from hydroponic plants grown by local residents and the remaining were bought from vegetable sellers in the area. Money used to bought the vegetables were from alms cans that placed at residents' houses.

"Today, 100 packages of vegetables and protein foods are given to underprivileged people to improve their food consumption," he mentioned.  

He explained that 49 RWs in the region have implemented the Kampung Sedekah program, including RW 03, 07, 09 of Ciracas Urban Village; RW 09 of Ciracas Urban Village; RW 09 of Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village; and RW 06 of Rambutan Urban Village.

Meanwhile, RT 08/06 Head, Abdul Kadir stated, there were 1,000 hydroponic planting locations in the region. Those vegetables were planted using pipes in front of people houses. When harvested, it could produce about 15-50 kilograms of vegetables.

From 40 of 50 alms cans placed in residents' houses, his side collected Rp 3.1 million in a month. The funds used to buy vegetables and protein foods (tempe and bean curd) to be distributed to underprivileged people who live in the area.

Moreover, the funds also used for other social activities, such as subsidies for paying electricity tokens for 10 underprivileged families each month (Rp 50,000 each families/month), repairing prayer rooms (musala) and others.

"In the future, people's alms will be managed to provide free health service and others," he conveyed.
