Taxi in Jakarta Required to Install GPS

Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama asked every taxi in the capital must be equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) in order to anticipate and minimize theft action. By so, taxi position can be detected.

Basuki disclosed, Jakarta Transportation Department has done improvements in terms of regulations related to taxi transport service in the city. "Every taxi operator in Jakarta are required to install a GPS device to control the fleet," he said, Thursday (12/4).

He also appealed Jakartans to remain vigilant when they wanted to travel by taxi. He advised they booked taxi via the telephone or in a smartphone application.

 

"People should use a smartphone. You should be able to SMS and ask. Don't let the taxi to come to your house and then ride, this could be trickery. Of the thousands of taxis, scams can be done by one to two taxi. And do not try to intercept taxi on the street, it can be dangerous because we cannot check the license plate number, whether it is original or fake," he asserted.

 

Former regent of East Belitung also asks people to re-check the taxi driver's identity and its number. "Taxi company operational could be stopped forcibly if they are proven guilty regarding theft action in the taxi," he uttered.
