South Jakarta Targets Reducing 23 Percent of Waste Per Day

The South Jakarta administration is targeting to reduce waste by around 23 percent or 345 tons of the total 1,500 tons of waste produced per day.

Development and Environment Division Head, Imam Bahri disclosed, in South Jakarta, the waste generated from 10 sub-districts reached 1,500 tons per day.

"We are targeting that around 23 percent or 345 tons of garbage piles can be reduced every day," he expressed, Thursday (1/27).

He revealed, various efforts to manage waste in South Jakarta continue to be improved. One of them could be effective with citizen involvement. According to him, a number of management efforts to reduce piles of garbage in South Jakarta include the existence of a waste bank, cultivation of maggot caterpillars, alms for used cooking oil and Eco-enzyme.

"Residents give alms through the processing of used cooking oil. So, they collect used cooking oil and earn money. However, most of the residents choose to donate their money," he stated.
